The Extraordinary Life of Cecily Blinkstop

This week, I was tasked with picking out continuity errors in the short film “The Extraordinary Life of Cecily Blinkstop.” I really didn’t see many, but I’m not a very observant person at the best of times, so I didn’t exactly have high hopes for this assignment. I found five possible continuity errors:

  1. In the opening shot, I feel like the lighting shifts back and forth from noontime (bright) to early evening (less bright).
  2. Cecily’s position on the tire swing changed between shots too quickly to be realistic (she was swinging on hr stomach at first, but after a cut to Mr. Blinkstop was sitting in the center of the tire swing).
  3. Some of the clothes sticking out of Cecily’s dresser move between scenes.
  4. This is more of a story question: Why did Mr. Blinkstop stand, walk away from the table, and look perplexed when Cecily hallucinated Amanda Jane’s footsteps? He shouldn’t have been able to hear them.
  5. When Cecily points to Amanda Jane in the final scene, she gestures into empty space. That’d be fine if she didn’t believe Amanda Jane was standing beside her; in her view, she would be poking Amanda Jane.

This is all I could find, so I’m kind of glad the whole filming crew is looking for continuity throughout our short film instead of just me.
